Description: The ‘Noor ala Noor’ lighting sculpture is an artistic expression of light in the form of a sculpture.
ElNoori’s Thoughts: The ‘Noor ala Noor’ lighting sculpture is an artistic expression of light in the form of a sculpture. The sculpture is made of stacked elements inspired by Quranic verse 35 from Surat Al Noor where the likeness of Allah’s light is described “as a niche in which is a lamp, the lamp is in a glass, (and) the glass is as it were a brightly shining star, lit from a blessed olive-tree, neither eastern nor western, the oil whereof almost gives light though fire touch it not- light upon light”. ‘Noor ala Noor’ is therefore seen as an object that transfers and transforms light.
The sculpture transforms from day to night, from a decorative art piece to a luminous installation that beams with shimmers and patterns of light. The piece draws upon duality and contrast. The duality is expressed in the manner in which the forms are stacked. Different angles of the sculpture can depict a classical and/or a contemporary expression. Certain angles showcase the piece as stable, strong and communicate a level of comfort, while other angles introduce tension and uncertainty, which allows the viewers to experience the piece differently as they walk around it. Moreover, it evokes contrasting emotions in the eyes of the viewers as they explore the piece in different settings and environments.
Note: Each light sculpture is made to order and takes four to six weeks to be delivered
